Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 14, 2026

Vehicle Lookup ("we", "us", "our") operates vehiclelookup.org and its subdomains. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our free VIN and license plate lookup tools, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service. The information we process falls into three buckets:

  • Lookup queries. When you run a VIN decode or license plate lookup, we receive the VIN, plate, and state you submitted. We forward these to public data sources (NHTSA, EPA) and our licensed history partners to return your report.
  • Server logs. Our Cloudflare infrastructure records standard request metadata — IP address, user agent, timestamp, and the path requested — for security, abuse prevention, and performance tuning.
  • Analytics. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or sell any data to data brokers.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to deliver your vehicle report, operate and secure the site, improve our tools, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information and we do not build advertising profiles on visitors.

Data sources and third parties

Vehicle specifications, recall data, crash ratings, and fuel economy come from public US government sources (NHTSA vPIC, NHTSA NCAP, EPA FuelEconomy.gov). Paid history reports, when you choose to purchase one, are delivered by NMVTIS-approved providers under their own privacy terms, which you will see before checkout.

Cookies

We use a small number of first-party cookies for session state and analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser; the lookup tools will continue to work without them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Contact us at the email below and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Our services are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
